Probably the best thing I have done since
returning to Astronomy, apart from buying a good telescope*, is doing an
introductory course with one of the Universities. I did a course with
Liverpool John Moores University...The Universe Through a Small
Telescope. It has proved to be both enjoyable and inspirational.* Not necessarily an expensive one. Simple Newtonian optics will
capture as much light size for size as will much more sophisticated
optics. The 8" Celestron I have has a GoTo mount which is very useful...but much more fun is to
be had and much more satisfaction gained when star hopping!

I've recently modified the roof sections to allow them to be
opened and closed from within the observatory details and photo's to
follow when time permits.
The Summer's project is to rebuild the
covered area and garden store near the observatory and extend the
observatory by adding a further roof section.
